A South Tyneside man accused of perverting the course of justice will stand trial at Newcastle Crown Court next week.

Joseph Cheeseman, 33, faces a charge of perverting the course of justice by giving a false name and date of birth to police at Western Approach in South Shields on Wednesday, January 9, last year.

He is also charged with driving a Ford Transit without insurance at the same time on the same road.

He is also accused of driving a Ford Transit van without insurance on Westoe Road on September 16 of last year and driving the same vehicle at the same place and date otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence.

Cheeseman, of Lyndhurst Street, South Shields, entered no pleas to the charges at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

The case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court for trial on February 10.

He was granted unconditional bail until then.
