A SOUTH Tyneside man has appeared in court in connection with the theft of a car.

Two men appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court after a Peugeot 308 was stolen and crashed in Washington on June 7.

Ryan Howard, 22, of Dusntanburgh Close, Washington, pleaded not guilty to being carried in a stolen vehicle which was then damaged.

Anthony Rodgers, 27, of Coquet Avenue, South Shields, withheld his pleas to charges of aggravated vehicle taking, drink-driving, using a vehicle without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Both were released on bail and will appear at Newcastle Crown Court on August 13.
