Shields street attack: Man arrested for GBH

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after an early-hours street attack.

The victim suffered head and facial injuries when he was attacked in Coquet Avenue, Horsley Hill, South Shields, at 2.25am today.

He was taken to South Tyneside District Hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Extra officers are at the scene carrying out inquiries and reassuring the local community.

Police are appealing for witnesses, and anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting reference 71 031213, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
