A THIEF who snatched two bottles of wine from a South Tyneside supermarket has walked free from court.
Sharon Stubbs took two bottles of Gallo wine from the shelves of Tesco, in Prince Edward Road, South Shields, on Sunday, February 16.
The 38-year-old, of Revesby Street, South Shields, pleaded guilty to a charge of shop theft at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Jeanette Smith, prosecuting, said: “At 7.15pm, she went into the Tesco store and took the wine and put into her pockets and left without paying.
“She was later arrested and fully admitted the offence.
“She said when she was in the store there were no shop assistants around and she decided to leave without paying.”
Linda Murphy, chairman of the magistrates, gave Stubbs a six-month conditional discharge for the offence.
She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and compensation of £7.49 – the value of the bottles of whine which were not recovered – to Tesco.
