Two men charged with robbery at post office

TWO men have been charged with robbing a customer during an attempted raid on a South Tyneside post office.

Andrew Ross, 31, of Aydon House, and David Roberts, 20, of Raby Street, both Sunderland, have been charged with attempted robbery of Whitburn Post Office.

They also face a charge of robbery of a customer in the store where a mobile phone was stolen.

The alleged offences happened at 11.33am on Friday, May 24, last year at the Post Office in North Guards, Whitburn.

Ross is remanded in custody, and was due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

Roberts has been bailed to appear before the same court on February 18.
