A WOMAN grabbed her boyfriend by the throat during an argument.
Catherine Davison lashed out at the man and dug her nails into his neck.
The 24-year-old, of Inverness Road, Jarrow, pleaded guilty to assault at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
Paul Anderson, prosecuting, said: “They started to argue and she dug her nails into his neck, grabbing his throat.
“He pushed her to the floor and tried to restrain her, but she got up and went for him again.”
Ian Cruickshank, defending, told the court that Davison admits assaulting the man but said she was reacting because he pushed her to the floor first.
District Judge Andrew Davison decided that a hearing was needed to determine the level of Davison’s assault.
She will be back at the court on November 4 for the hearing and was granted bail on condition that she lives at an address in Elberfield Court, Jarrow, and does not contact prosecution witnesses or enter Inverness Road, Jarrow.
