AN armed forces dad is taking baby steps towards business success after winning a national award.
Matt Bolton’s innovative idea for a safer alternative to the traditional babygrow – inspired by his own children – has proved such an online hit that he was named ‘Best Dadpreneur’ at an industry bash in Birmingham on Saturday.
The father-of-two’s victory in the Mumpreneur Awards 2013 comes just two months after he set up the company.
Now he is setting his sights on swapping barracks for the business world full time.
The 37-year-old, originally from Hebburn but now based in London, designed his own range of safety rompers for babies after spotting that his own children, Lauren, now seven, and Nicholas, six, were finding it difficult to move on laminate flooring.
The Crawlerz babywear, offering a unique anti-slip safety grip on the knees and elbows of a baby grow, is designed to encourage tots to crawl while stopping them from sliding.
Mr Bolton, who has been in the Army for 17 years and is currently a financial systems administrator at King’s Troop in London, launched Crawlerz in July and has been delighted with demand for his product range.
He said: “This was the first awards event that I had put myself forward.
“When my name was called out as the winner it was a big shock. I wasn’t expecting it.
“The business is still new and the hardest thing is getting the word out there. I have had a lot of positive feedback from customers.”
As well as being available on his own website, Mr Bolton is working hard to get the product into shops across the country.
It is currently on shelves in a boutique in Solihull and another in Liverpool, Kelly-Marie Designer Children’s Boutique, owned by former Hollyoaks actress Kelly-Marie Stewart.
With baby business already booming, Mr Bolton is hoping to make it a double after winning a place in the semi finals of the Rattles 2 Riches baby product competition, held in London tomorrow.
