DOZENS of disabled people made waves during a successful river trip – thanks to a booming Hebburn group.
The Guys and Dolls Disco, a group for those with learning difficulties, meets every Wednesday night at Elmfield Social Club in Campbell Park Road, Hebburn.
Members recently enjoyed a trip to Stockton, where they boarded the Teesside Princess for a river cruise to Yarm and back.
Group treasurer Brian Brown said: “We had 100 of our people there, including carers, parents and paying guests, who enjoyed a two-course lunch and a drink or two.
“It was funded by the Guys and Dolls Disco, from money raised at their disco nights held at the Elmfield Club.
“We now have a regular attendance of 100 people with learning difficulties, plus their carers on a Wednesday night, and we can still take more.”
Members thanked Tommy’s Travel of South Shields for the transport and Teesside Ferries for an “excellent trip” on the Tees.
Local council members of Hebburn Community Area Forum have also been thanked for a £500 donation, which helped fund the trip.
Anyone with learning difficulties is invited to go along to the Guys and Dolls Disco at Elmfield Social Club at 6.30pm every Wednesday.
A warm welcome is guaranteed.
