A TEENAGE girl with chronic fatigue syndrome will get to see her friend perform after all.
Jessica Thompson, who suffers from myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), nominated her friend Eve Simpson for the Young Performer Of The Year title in the Pride Of South Tyneside awards.
The 15-year-old hoped to make it to the Customs House in Mill Dam, South Shields, on Sunday, March 18, to see Eve, 12, sing in her bid to win the award, but couldn’t make it due to illness.
But, thanks to the Shields Gazette, she’ll now be able to watch her performance on DVD.
Jessica’s mum, Julie, of Sutton Way, Harton, said: “Jessica was determined to make it to the Customs House right up until the last minute, but she was just too poorly to go.
“She was really upset about not seeing Eve perform, but she still insisted that me and her dad went along to support her – that’s the kind of girl she is.
“She’s really looking forward to watching the DVD now.”
Eve, 12, of Beacon Glade, in Marsden, was presented with the DVD by the Gazette’s video reporter Jonathan Linsley.
She said: “Jessica couldn’t make it along to the young performers’ night so this is a really good idea.
“She’s the one who nominated me, so it’ll be great for her to see me sing.”
Gazette editor John Szymanski said: “It was a real shame Jessica couldn’t attend, because it was a fantastic night, with some great talent on show.
“Thanks to our DVD, she can now catch Eve and all the youngsters who performed.”
