drum guys have all the luck ... Paul Lindsay handing a cheque for 1,739 to South Tyneside Alzheimers Society Dementia support worker Liz Williams.

PUB-rock bands in Jarrow made it a charity hat-trick when they raised the roof to help people with dementia.

Paul Lindsay organised a charity night at the Tunnel Club in North Street, Jarrow, featuring various pub and club acts.

The evening proved a sellout, raising £1,739 for South Tyneside Alzheimer’s Society.

Mr Lindsay, drummer with the Albino Crocodiles, one of the acts featured, said: “This is the third time we have held the concert to raise money for the local Alzheimer’s Society.

“Apart from the Albino Crocodiles, the bands that played on the night were Panic Report, the Mutts and Remedy.

“The management of the Tunnel Club must be thanked for donating a plasma TV for a raffle, as must the sound men, who always provide their services free of charge.”

Mr Lindsay added: “Over the last three years, the event must have raised more than £3,000 to help those caring for people with dementia.

“We would like to thank the club, the bands and everyone who came along on the night to support a very good cause.”

Liz Williams, a dementia support worker with the society, said: “This is the third time Paul and his friends have organised this concert, and we are extremely grateful.

“I went along to the concert, and it was a great event.”

Based at the Edinburgh Buildings in Station Approach, South Shields, the society has 18 mostly part-time staff, providing support for about 200 people with dementia and their carers.
