HEADTEACHER David Thompson said he was “delighted” with the overall GCSE results at Hebburn Comprehensive School.
He said: “Students performed particularly well in the core subjects, with a phenomenal 88 per cent of students achieving the national measure of A* to C in English and an equally impressive 77 per cent achieving the national measure in maths.
“This means that three-quarters of the year group leave with the all-important English and maths link-up, putting them in an excellent position for the future.”
Among the highest achieving students was Lucy Newman, 16, of Hebburn, who gained eight A* grades across science and arts subjects.
She said: “I’ve worked hard, and the course was difficult, but I’m going on to the St Joseph’s sixth form and then want to study medicine at university, specialising in cardio-vascular surgery.”
