The Question Time with a difference left a North East MP full of praise for students after they quizzed her on local, national and world affairs.

South Shields School students prepared and delivered a barrage of insightful questions to the town’s MP Emma Lewell-Buck, the shadow minister for children and families.

The MP was invited to meet students and tour the school after a teacher met her at the Labour Party Conference.

A group of students from each year group were chosen to prepare and ask the MP questions.

These covered a wide range of issues including youth problems, apprenticeships, A-levels, Brexit and its impact on exports, imports and the economy.

She was also asked for her opinions on US president Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Theresa May.

Head of Years 10 and 11, Helen George, said: “I think our students were surprised with how honest her replies were and I know she enjoyed the question and answer session.

“She said she was impressed with how confident and creative students were and the quality of their questioning.

“It was also interesting for me to hear the types of concerns young people have about the world they live in.”
