MUMS and dads hit the back of the net with a family learning course at a school in South Tyneside.
Six adults signed up for the 15-week course, which is run by Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light, at Valley View Primary, in Valley View, Jarrow.
They are now hoping to score a job after gaining a BTEC qualification in sport and leisure.
Paul Leach, Foundation of Light lifelong learning officer, put the learners through their paces.
Their time was split between the classroom, looking at exercise, nutrition and how the body works, and outdoor coaching activities with their children.
They then planned and carried out the final coaching session.
Mr Leach said: “We have done a couple of family learning courses at the school before. This time it was for a BTEC Level 1 Award in sport and active leisure.
“It is just trying to get adults who are maybe not in work qualifications so they go back to work.
“It is completely free for them to do, and they get to spend time with their child as well. It’s a brilliant opportunity for them and they have done really well.” Acting head Karen Hutchinson said: “Both parents and children have benefited greatly from this wonderful opportunity to work alongside the SAFC coach.
“The school encourages parental participation in all aspects of school life and SAFC Family Learning is a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle for the family.”
