A FORMER soap star is heading to West Shields to donate his time to help a South Tyneside charity boost its coffers.
Dale Meeks, who starred as fishmonger Simon Meredith in Emmerdale, will entertain the audience at the Armstrong Hall in Stanhope Road on Saturday.
The South Tyneside-born actor has agreed to compere an evening of star-studded entertainment featuring Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists Irresistible.
The group, who regularly perform across Europe with the Glen Miller Orchestra, have recently returned from London, where they performed in the Army in the Park annual festival.
The event aims to raise money for Impact Family Services, which has offices based in South Shields and Sunderland, with cash being used to support victims of domestic abuse.
The night will include a raffle and an auction with a number of prizes up for grabs.
Margaret Welch, development and volunteer manager at Impact Family Services, said: “We are really excited Irresistible have agreed to perform at our charity fundraiser, and now Dale Meeks has offered his support.
“Everyone who attends will not only have a great night, but they will be helping to raise money to support a really good cause.” As well as Emmerdale, Dale also appeared as a youngster in Newcastle-based drama Byker Grove.
He has performed in London’s West End in Love Never Dies.
He also toured the UK with the musical Chicago.
South Tyneside-based Irresistible have gone from strength to strength, after making the semi-finals of ITV1 show Britain’s Got Talent in 2008.
Tickets, priced £20, are still available for the night, which includes an Indian banquet courtesy of the Hedworth Hall.
Doors open at 7.30pm.
