VOLUNTEERS are celebrating after raising £10,000 for good causes across South Tyneside.

Cheryl MacDonald and her mother Lynne Davis, along with a team of helpers, launched Community Corner on Facebook in March.

The aim of their initiative was to re-sell donated goods to raise cash for community groups.

Cheryl, 27, of Brockley Whins, South Shields, said: “We can’t believe we’ve managed to raise so much in such a short space of time.

“We’re so grateful to everyone who has supported us so far.”

People drop off goods at the Monkey Mayhem soft-play centre in Shaftesbury Avenue, South Shields, and the women then take them home to sort before they’re pictured and listed on Facebook.

Buyers then visit Lynne’s home in Inverness Road, Jarrow, to pick up their purchases.

Cheryl said: “We’ve donated cash to play groups in the area, helped out food banks and made up boxes, which contained toiletries and things, to give to the women’s refuge.

“Already we’ve made such a difference to the community, which is obviously our main aim.”

The group is looking for caterers able to provide food at a discounted rate to help out with a Christmas party to be held on Saturday, December 6, at the Neon Social Club in Nairn Street, Jarrow.

If you can help, call Cheryl on 07794 418 011.
