Festive fever is set to hit South Tyneside with a bang with a range of Christmas events planned in the run up to the big day.
Last year, thousands of residents and visitors descended on the borough to take part in one of the many Christmas lights switch ons and festive activities.
Now, the plans for this year’s Christmas Wonderland has been unveiled by council chiefs which will once again include a camel parade featuring three wise men.
Mayor of South Tyneside, Coun Alan Smith, said: “Christmas is a wonderful time of year when families and friends come together to celebrate the festive season and make some amazing cherished memories. We have a spectacular range of events for all ages this year. We would like to welcome everyone to join in with the festivities taking place across the borough, and hope everyone has a magical and memorable Christmas in South Tyneside.”
The festive merriment will start on November 17 in South Shields with a festive light switch on at the Market Place from 6pm, followed by Jarrow on November 18 outside the Town Hall and Hebburn’s Fountain Park on November 21 - both starting at 4pm.
The Camel Parade will take place on December 2, from 5pm which will end with a firework finale.

Coun Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “With the countdown to Christmas fast approaching we are determined to make this year’s festive season better than ever before.
“Last year’s dazzling programme of events across South Tyneside was again a great success and received extremely positive feedback. We aim to build on this for our celebrations this year by spreading the merriment and magic of Christmas right across the Borough and beyond. We look forward to welcoming both residents and visitors to enjoy everything we have to offer.”
The annual Christmas Fair at Haven Point will return on November 26 and 27 while the Civic Carol Concert will be held on December 5 at Temple Park Centre. St Hilda’s Church Gardens, South Shields, will also be home to a dazzling Christmas Wonderland lighting display from November 17 until January 6.
