Fire crews called to help trapped bull

FIREFIGHTERS were called into action after a bull became trapped during a Bank Holiday fun day in South Tyneside.

Officers from South Shields Fire Station turned out to Bede’s World at Jarrow, after being alerted to an animal stuck in fencing.

The crew arrived at the site at about 12.30pm yesterday, armed with cutting equipment to help free the bull.

But after they arrived, the creature managed to struggle free.

Ian Robinson, Watch Manager at South Shields Fire Station, said: “We were called out to Bede’s World in Jarrow after a report a bull was trapped in fencing.

“We went to get it out using our cutting equipment.

“But as we arrived, the bull managed to free itself from the fencing.

“A vet was also on hand throughout to ensure the welfare of the animal.”

Bede’s World, based in Church Bank, Jarrow, has a number of farm animals on its grounds.

The culture spot was hosting the final day of its Pirates Weekend when the unexpected drama took place.
