A KITTEN had to be rescued by firefighters after becoming entangled in the leg of a Christmas tree.

The South Shields crew were called to a home in Norham Avenue, Horsley Hill, after the kitten managed to get its head stuck in a hole within the plastic leg of the festive tree.

The alarm was raised at about 8.30pm on Sunday.

The kitten, which is only a few weeks old, was freed without injury after firefighters spent 20 minutes sawing the tree leg from around the animal’s neck.
