A SOUTH Tyneside firm has stepped in to help kit out a young rugby team.

Be Modern, in Western Approach, South Shields, answered a call for sponsorship from a group of under-10s at Westoe Rugby Club.

The youngsters who play for Westoe Wolves at the club, based in Dean Road, South Shields, were in need of a new kit and sponsorship to see them through the present season.

The company was approached by Sheena Carmichael, the mum of player Robbie.

Mark Hunter, head of marketing at Be Modern, said: “As a company, we always try to put something back into the community which supports us.

“We had been approached directly by one of the children’s mothers asking for a donation to the team to help them with their strips.

“As a company, we were only too happy to sponsor them and make a donation to the team.”

The team was handed a cheque for £950 from the company, which manufactures, fireplaces and bathroom furniture.

Mrs Carmichael, said: “Be Modern has been fantastic to us.

“I approached them and asked if they could help, and they really have come through for the team.

“The strips are brilliant, and the team really are grateful for their help.”
