Four people had to be rescued after being cut off by the tide at Frenchman's Bay in South Shields.

A passerby spotted the group of teens who were left stranded as the tide went in on Thursday night and alerted the coastguard.

The group were rescued by Tynemouth RLNI Lifeboats along with South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade at 4.53pm.

Everyone was brought safely back to shore at 5.20pm and no one was injured.
