THE funeral of a pensioner from South Tyneside who died in a road accident will be held later this week.
Margaret Foley, 81, of Morpeth Avenue, South Shields, died on Monday, December 23, when her car was in collision with a lorry on the A1 in Northumberland.
The retired teacher was travelling on a single carriageway stretch of the road in her Nissan Note when the accident happened, near the Berwick bypass, just before noon.
She had been on her way to spend Christmas with her sister in Berwick.
Miss Foley, a grandmother-of-one, was cut free from the vehicle by firefighters, and taken to Wansbeck Hospital in Ashington. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the lorry, a 55-year-old man, escaped injury.
Miss Foley’s funeral will take place at South Shields Crematorium on Friday, at 10am.
Donations to St Clare’s Hospice in Jarrow and Guide Dogs for the Blind have been asked for in lieu of flowers.
Northumbria Police is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and is asking any witnesses to come forward.
