Girl, four, dies after being hit by car in Jarrow

A four-year-old girl who was hit by a car in a South Tyneside street has died, police have announced.

Ava Henderson was injured in the collision which happened at Amos Ayre Place in Jarrow at shortly before 7.30pm on Friday, May 27.

She was struck by a vehicle and sustained serious injuries.

She was treated at the scene by ambulance staff and taken to the RVI in Newcastle, but died later that evening.

Ava lived in Inverness Road, also in Jarrow.

Officers are continuing to investigate the incident.
