Golf club tees up arts centre boost

A GOLF club has teed up a South Tyneside charity for a fundraising boost.

Arts4Wellbeing is one of several charities chosen by Heworth Golf Club to benefit from cash its members have raised over the last year.

The centre, in South Shields, helps people with learning and physical disabilities and those with mental health needs to make the most of their creative talents.

The charity was chosen to benefit by £200 after it was nominated by club members impressed by the support the Derby Terrace centre offers.

The golfers have raised about £1,500 altogether by holding tournaments, raffles and social evenings.

Gordon Peters, secretary of the Gingling Gate golf club, said: “I have visited Arts4Wellbeing and know how important the charity is to those who use it, and I know they are struggling with funds. The club has raised about £1,500 throughout the year, which has now been split between a number of charities, and we are only too pleased to hand a cheque over to Arts4Wellbeing for £200 to help with their funding efforts.”

Arts4Wellbeing centre manager Dave Wood said: “All donations to the charity are gratefully received.

“We are so grateful to the golf club for thinking of Arts4Wellbeing when it come to choosing charities to benefit from the money which had been raised throughout the year.”

The charity allows people to nurture a range of artistic talents from painting, sketching, sculpting and drama.
