A FITNESS coach is getting ready to help keep fit enthusiasts go the extra mile.
The Monthly Mile kicks off in South Shields on Tuesday, and organiser Luke Adams is hoping to see runners of all abilities having a go.
The 25-year-old, of Tarragon Way, South Shields, said: “The run will have beginner and intermediate groups, and one for faster runners, so people of all abilities can join in.
“The route will go from the Sand Dancer, on the seafront up to the New Crown roundabout, down Bents Park Road to the Sundial, and then back to the Sand Dancer.
“I help with the Park Run on Saturdays, but I feel like the mile has been forgotten about in a way.
“When people come along to my running clubs, they often ask how quickly they should be able to run a mile.
“I thought this event would be a good way for people to build up fitness.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while and thought I’d start it now, as it’s a good time for people to begin getting into the habit of exercising.
“The Park Run, from the Sand Dancer along The Leas and back, is great, but it’s 5km and some people just can’t run that far.
“The Monthly Mile is a great way to get fit, and people could use it to get their fitness level up and then maybe even join in the Park Run every Saturday.”
Runners hoping to take part should meet at the Sand Dancer pub, in Sea Road, South Shields, at 6.30pm, to register for the event.
Alternatively, people can sign up before the night by searching for ‘The Monthly Mile’ – South Shields’ on Facebook.
