A WOMAN from South Tyneside is aiming to help others beat the bulge after being helped through her own weight loss battle.

Sarah Graham, of Laygate, South Shields, has become a Slimming World group leader after shedding three-and-a-half stone with the support of the group.

The 37-year-old first joined Slimming World in November 2011, when her daughter Kara, now two-and-a-half-years, was five months old.

Sarah, who is married to Dave, said: “I was on maternity leave from work, and I just started doing what a lot of people do, constantly picking at food.

“I had lost my baby weight but then starting putting it all back on and I went up to 16st, so I decided to join Slimming World, and my confidence started coming back.

“In December 2012, I found out I was pregnant with my second daughter, Molly, who’s now five months, and I continued to go to Slimming World throughout my pregnancy.

“All I wanted was to not go back to 16st, and I managed it with the support of other people in my group. I even lost a bit of weight the week before I gave birth.”

She added: “While I was pregnant, I craved Chinese chips and curry sauce. Other people in the group told me about a healthy version that you can make yourself and it tastes exactly the same.

“I’m down to 12-and-a-half stone now, and I feel a lot better.”

Sarah, who is on maternity leave from software company Sage Group, now runs her own group at CustomSpace – formerly The Cave – in The Captain’s Row, South Shields.

The group meets every Monday evening from 7.30pm.

She said: “Going to Slimming World helped me get my confidence back, and the support I was given at the group was so amazing. I want to pass on that support to other people now.

“It’s my way of giving something back for the help I received. I’m hoping the group will be successful enough that I can cut my hours back at my job as well.

“Now that I’ve got two girls, I feel guilty at the thought of going back to work and leaving them, so I’d love to be able to spend more time at home.”
