WORKERS and their families in South Tyneside are being encouraged to take advantage of a free tennis offer.

Boldon Lawn Tennis Club, in Dipe Lane, West Boldon, is offering free use of its facilities to local families on Sundays between 11am and 1pm and Tuesday evenings until mid- September.

It introduced the offer last month and has decided to extend it in a bid to get even more people to try the sport.

The decision has been backed by South Tyneside Council’s lead member for children, young people and families, Coun Joan Atkinson, who is also a local councillor for the area.

She said: “Hopefully, many people will have been inspired by Wimbledon to get out in the sunshine to give tennis a go.

“Tennis is a fun, social sport that the whole family can enjoy, and this is a great opportunity to try it free of charge.”

Any one interested in taking advantage of this offer can contact committee member Roy Wilburn on 0752 7464751 or club captain Amy Oxman on 0753 8177049 or visit the club any Tuesday evening or Sunday morning.

Head coach Stephanie Eadon can also offer businesses use of the facilities for team building using tennis as an activity to promote communication and leadership skills.
