Heartfelt tributes to much-loved woman who died after collapsing at school in South Shields

Tributes have been paid to a woman who has died after collapsing at the school where she worked.

The woman, named locally as Lisa Kelly, was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, after losing consciousness in the car park at Bamburgh School, in Norham Avenue South, South Shields, on Monday afternoon.

Bamburgh School’s headteacher, Peter Nord, led the tributes to his colleague, who is understood to be a mum of twins and in her 30s.

He said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of a dedicated and highly respected member of our staff.

“She was loved by pupils, staff, parents and carers alike.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with her family at this devastating time.

“As a small school this has been felt throughout the entire school community and we would appreciate privacy to mourn her loss. This is a very emotional time and we are doing everything we can to support our pupils, staff and the wider community.”

The school was closed yesterday as a mark of respect.

The woman has not officially been named and the matter has been reported to the Coroner in Newcastle

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “On Monday afternoon, police were informed a woman had collapsed at Bamburgh School.

“The woman in her 30s was taken to hospital, but sadly died.

“There is believed to be no third party involvement and a report has been prepared for the coroner.”

The woman was airlifted to hospital at 3.30pm on Monday after being treated by medics at the scene.

Heartfelt tributes were left on the Gazette’s Facebook page after the death was announced yesterday.

Denise Houston posted: “My son went to this school and left 10 years ago. He is devastated. He loved her. Love to the family at this very sad time.”

Will Binks added: “So, so sad. My thoughts are with her family, the teachers and children.”

Heather Pinky Kyle said: “Devastating. I’ve known her since a child RIP honey.”
