Kind-hearted people in South Tyneside are needed to help raise funds for patient care at a borough hospice.

Bosses at St Clare’s Hospice, in Jarrow, are on the lookout for people willing to donate their time to help others.

The charity, based in Primrose Terrace, provides in-patient and day care services for adults with life-limiting illnesses.

The volunteers will be needed to help with fundraising events with a range of positions available from managing stalls, to marshalling and bagpacking.

Volunteer Susan Inskip said: “I’ve been volunteering for 12 months now, after having cancer, I felt a need to help others in a similar position. St Clare’s Hospice, being a local charity, seemed the obvious choice.

“I was shocked when I discovered that the hospice needed to raise £2 million a year to function. I offered to help with administration within fundraising and got involved with research, helping to maintain collection tins and updating the database.

“The staff are so professional and I thoroughly enjoy helping out at St Clare’s and would encourage people to do so, even if it is just for a one-off event.”

Tyler Anderson, community fundraiser for the organisation, said: “We have a number of exciting events coming up throughout the year which will really make a difference towards patient care.

“You don’t need experience to join us as briefing is provided.

“Everyone has a part to play and it can be really fun and rewarding.”
