Jen sings praises of generous sponsors

THE grand-daughter of a South Tyneside police officer honoured his memory by taking part in her first Great North Run.

Jen Normandale, from South Shields, did the half-marathon to raise money for The Stroke Association in honour of her grandfather, who died after suffering a stroke in 1993.

The public relations worker pledged to raise 200, but passed the 600 mark.

Jen, who also sings in a band, Alcatraz House Band, finished the race in an impressive time of 2hrs.

She said: "Once you tell people your story, they're so generous.

She said she plans to do the race again next year, adding: "The sense of relief you get when you cross the finish line is immense."
