A workout to get tongues wagging
TONGUES are wagging over a new restaurant workout designed to ensure customers enjoy every bite.
Bosses at Taybarns, based in Hobsons Way, Simonside, South Shields, have teamed up with fitness instructor Lucy Wyndham-Read to put together an imaginative exercise regime for the tongue and taste buds.
The first ever 'tongue-tric' workout is designed to help heighten taste sensation and flavour enjoyment.
Fitness guru Ms Wyndham-Read said: "The tongue, like your biceps or abs, is a muscle and, to get it working effectively, it needs a good warm up.
"The exercises will help arouse your taste buds, to make the most of what you are eating."
Staff at the fixed-price eatery, which offers food from traditional Sunday roasts to Chinese food, have been trained to teach the routine to diners.
General manager Sarah Steele said: "We thought it would be a great idea to help our guests make the most of the wide range of dishes on offer.
"We are expecting some funny looks from customers when we are teaching the twister or the tongue press up."
Ms Wyndham-Read's workout includes six exercises which guarantee taste heaven.
She added: "These exercises will improve your range of movement in your tongue, lips and jaw.
"And you will be able to chew fully, as all your jaw muscles are warmed up."
Anyone who wants to try the tongue-tric workout can visit their local restaurant.
