LITTLE CRITICS NEEDED ... Chris Tweddell launches Boldon Cineworld and the Gazettes child reviewer competition. Back, from left, James Walton, Toni Fleming and Paul Newham.

YOUNG film buffs could have the chance to review upcoming summer flicks.

Cineworld in Boldon Colliery has teamed up with the Gazette to offer one keen writer the chance to become a critic.

The cinema in Abingdon Way is looking for a South Tyneside youngster, aged between eight and 12, to write film reviews for the Gazette’s website.

The lucky winner will be given a family ticket, worth £24.80 for a 2D film and £30.40 for 3D, each week of the school summer holidays.

The tickets admit up to four people, including at least one adult.

The cinema’s deputy general manager, Michala Berry, said: “We’d love to have a young person come along and review films during the summer holidays, because it would be brilliant to get a fresh perspective on the films we show.

“We have lots of adults coming along to do reviews, but the kids know best when it comes to the films aimed at them.

“The reviews going up on the Gazette’s website would mean that other youngsters can log on and see a real verdict on films that they’re thinking about going to see.

“We’re all really looking forward to welcoming our new reviewer over the summer holidays.”

Our young reviewer and their family will also be treated to a family combo each week, which includes a large popcorn, two drinks and two Munch Boxes, made up of popcorn, a drink and a packet of Milky Way Stars, bringing the prize total to more than £200.

Gazette editor John Szymanski said: “No one knows kids’ films like kids, and it would be great to see reviews through the eyes of a young writer.

“We’re hoping lots of children will be excited about entering this competition.

“It will be a great way to put across a real verdict on kids’ films.

“So get writing and send in your entries.”

To be in with a chance of becoming the Gazette’s Cine-Kid, just write up a review, that’s no more than 300 words, of a favourite film you’ve seen.

Send your review, along with a picture of yourself and your name, age and contact details, to Vicki Newman, Cine-Kid, Shields Gazette, Northeast Press, Pennywell Industrial Estate, Sunderland, SR4 9ER.
