BAD BOY ... Joey Barton is restrained after his sending off yesterday. He later hit out at Alan Shearer on Twitter.

FOOTBALL bad boy Joey Barton has launched a Twitter attack on former Toon team-mate Alan Shearer after his sending off yesterday .

Magpies and England legend Shearer criticised the QPR midfielder after he was shown the red card for elbowing Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez in a Premier League match on Sunday.

The 29-year-old then kicked-out at City striker Sergio Aguero before aiming a headbutt at Vincent Kompany.

Shearer, now working as a pundit for the BBC, blasted Barton’s behaviour on Match of the Day, and suggested the midfielder could face a lengthy ban.

But Barton responded on the social networking site by tweeting: “Shearer’s still on my case. I know I ****** up Alan, thanks for stating the obvious.

“Whilst were both stating the obvious about each other, can I just say for the record what a great player u were. Well better me ...

“But I have a better hair (which is not hard), wear well better shirts on TV and have a personality (something u lack).

“I really don’t like that p****, in fact I honestly despise him.”

Barton, who played for Newcastle between 2007 and 2011, and was managed by Shearer during the 2008-09 season, added: “Still don’t think its a sending off.”
