Blues Brothers show hits Shields

BLUES fans are in for a night of brotherly love next week.

Shake Ya Tailfeather, a Blues Brothers tribute act fronted by former soap star Dale Meeks, are returning to the Customs House in South Shields on Monday.

South Shields-born Dale is no stranger to the role of Joliet 'Jake' Blues, having first donned shades and hat to play him back in 2005.

That same year, his Blue Brothers tribute, alongside his then-Emmerdale co-star Mark Charnock, won an episode of ITV1's Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes.

Shake Ya Tailfeather went on to perform at various outdoor venues such as Bents Park in South Shields and Old Trafford in Manchester, as well as the Customs House and various South Tyneside pubs.

"I love that kind of music, and it was great to win Stars In Their Eyes with Mark Charnock, who still plays Marlon Dingle," said the 34-year-old.

"Monday's show is going to be an eclectic trip through blues music, and it will have a big party atmosphere."

"If it's successful, we hope to take it on the road again, but this time to theatrical venues."

Joining him on stage will be fellow North-East actors Iain Cunningham, Wayne Miller and Paul Westgate, who originally came up with the idea for the act back in 1998 while performing in the musical The Machine Gunners at the Edinburgh festival.

Making up the rest of the ensemble are musicians Ian Brown, Paul Westgate, Mark Fairley and Paul Jefferson.

Dale added: "There will be a lot of Blues Brothers tracks and a bit of Rolling Stones and Beatles."

Besides playing Simon Meredith in Emmerdale for three years, Dale's acting credits include the Newcastle-set children's TV classics Byker Grove, Tilly Trotter, Heartbeat and, most recently, a brief appearance in BBC3's Being Human.

Also on the bill for Monday's concert are the Soul Sisters, Moobs' drummer Adam Barnes, as well as some surprise guests.

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost 8.50. For details, call the venue on 454 1234.
