A BODY has been discovered at the bottom of cliffs in South Tyneside.
Coastguards were called in by Northumbria Police following the discovery on Friday afternoon.
A Tynemouth Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) boat and an all-weather lifeboat assisted in recovering the casualty from an inaccessible location.
The South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade was also drafted in to help raise the body to the top of the cliffs.
The deceased was a 52-year-old woman from the Gateshead area, who has not yet been named.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.
