South Shields boxers have tribute to a South Tyneside champ with “a heart of gold” after his tragic death.

The body of Dale Lincoln was found at the bottom of cliffs in Marsden on Monday morning by emergency services called to reports of a car going over the top.

The 21-year-old was a popular member of Horsley Hill Amateur Boxing Club.

And last night members and coach Steve Winter paid their respects by visiting the scene of the tragedy.

Coach Steve Winter, who last night left signed gloves at the cliff top, said: “He was a great kid with a heart of gold.

“He was like my surrogate son, and I loved him like one.”
