Care home gets top marks for service
A CARE home has received top marks for the service it provides for its elderly residents.
Palmersdene in Jarrow was given the highest quality rating possible and the maximum three stars by the Care Quality Commission.
Run by Anchor Homes, it got excellent marks for ensuring residents' health care needs are fully met.
The report highlighted the fact that the Grange Road West Home's 'person-centred' approach means residents are treated with respect and as individuals.
Home manager Maureen Curry said: "Getting the maximum three stars is fantastic.
"The rating of excellent is a true reflection of Palmersdene, and it recognises the hard work and commitment of the team here to providing the best quality of care. It's something we all take pride in."
Inspectors praised Palmersdene's management and administrative teams, noting that the home is "being run in the best interests of the residents".
They added: "The staff team are committed to ensuring the health, welfare and safety of the people living in the home.
"Good relationships were observed throughout the home, and staff were observed to be engaging with the people in the home and seeking their opinions.
"The management are committed to staff training and development to help make sure the individual needs of the people living in the home are met."
Homes and other care services can be awarded a score from nought to a maximum of three stars, with ratings of poor, adequate, good or excellent.
