SOUTH Shields MP Emma Lewell-Buck has claimed Chancellor George Osborne’s autumn statement was “out of touch with reality”.
She said: “The Chancellor and the Prime Minister seem to think the economic crisis is over, but that shows just how out of touch they are with the reality.
“Poverty is on the rise in South Shields, and increasingly it is working people who are starting to find that their incomes are no longer enough to pay the bills and provide for their families.
“Two thirds of children living in poverty today come from working households, including 5,000 in Shields, and struggling families say that their situations are likely to get worse in 2014.
“Economic recovery needs to work for everyone, but under this Government the benefits are only being felt by a few.
“That’s why Labour wants to deal with the cost of living crisis by increasing the Minimum Wage, cutting the cost of childcare for parents and freezing household energy bills.”
