Charity champions honour loved ones who lit up their lives

A charity champion couple looked to the skies to pay an emotional tribute to lost loved ones who lit up their lives.

Caring Claire Anderson and Graeme Martin, from Hebburn, joined forces with a small army of pals to ensure the memories of friends and family continue to burn bright.

The fundraising duo hosted a Summer Lights extravaganza in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, with lanterns etched with messages to those who lost their battle with the cruel condition released into the air for a moment of sombre reflection.

As well as offering those left behind an opportunity to celebate their loved ones, the event raised a fantastic total of over £300 for the charity.

Ms Anderson was originally set to hold the event in her back garden but when numbers swelled, benevolent business boss Paul Stephenson stepped into to open up his premises for the day.

Smilers Removals and Storage, based in Prince Consort Road, Hebburn, packed in the bumper crowd to give a worthy cause an extra boost.

The charity day - which also featured a BBQ - was close to the hearts of Claire and Graeme who have both gone through the heartache of losing a relative to cancer.

Ms Anderson, 38, said; “It is all about celebrating the lives of the people whol it up your lives.

“Graeme lost his dad to cancer about a decade ago and my nan died from cancer eight years ago.

“It was a lovely way to remember them and raise money for the charity.

“We smashed out target of £200 and raised an amazing £312.70.”
