Children join the culture club
PUPILS have added an exotic boost of Hindu culture to their classroom.
Children at St Oswald's Primary School in Hebburn have been delving into the world of Indian culture and myth as part of the Government's creative partnership programme.
Year 4 teacher Miss Rachel Slater said: "As a school we decided to present more multi-cultural influences to the children, teaching them that there is a wider world.
"They are loving it. they are really, really motivated."
As well as studying Hindu culture through traditional stories, the pupils have been working with artist Kelly Sheridan and visiting a Hindu temple in Newcastle.
Miss Slater added: "They have made silk cushions, clay figures of Ganesha and puppets of the characters from the story."
She added: "The other day the child were asking me if they could stay at school and have school dinners for tea so they could carry on making their puppets."
The project will run until the end of the Christmas term.
