Cricket club backs World Cup football bids

DURHAM County Cricket Club (CCC) is backing the region's bids to host World Cup football in 2018.

The Riverside ground will host an Ashes Test Match in 2013 – and the club is hoping to bring more top class sport to North East England.

Sunderland and Newcastle and Gateshead are campaigning to be included as host cities in the England bid to stage the 2018 World Cup that will go forward to FIFA next year.

As part of the process, Durham CCC and its Riverside facilities are included as part of the Sunderland bid.

Thousands of people, including Durham and England star Paul Collingwood, have already signed up to show their support.
