Cyclist injured in crash near Port of Tyne

A cyclist has been injured in an early morning collision close to the Port of Tyne.

The man was riding in Hudson Street when he was involved in the smash.

He was tended to by paramedics before being taken to hospital as a precaution.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "Police received a report at 7.25am of a collision involving a car and a cyclist in Hudson Street in South Shields.

"The cyclist was sitting up and talking following the accident but has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The road was cleared by 8pm."
