Dare you fire-walk for charity?
CHARITY champs will take a walk on the warm side when they hot-foot it to raise funds for patient care.
Fearless fundraisers have been invited to walk 20ft over wooden embers – burning at 1,236 degrees Fahrenheit – at Primrose Community Centre in Lambton Terrace, Jarrow.
The sponsored fire walk will take place on Friday, March 13, to raise vital funds for patient care at St Clare's Hospice.
A hospice spokesman said: "Have you got what it takes? As well as raising funds, many participants find the experience to be empowering and inspirational.
"If you can walk across hot coals, just think what else you could achieve."
The hot charity walk is organised by Blaze, a group which has years of experience and an impeccable safety record.
Before volunteers take part in the event, they will undergo a two-hour 'fear-buster' seminar.
Due to the costs involved, each participant is asked to raise a minimum of 100 in sponsorship.
Everyone who takes part will receive a T-shirt and a certificate.
A hospice spokesman added: "Family and friends are encouraged to go along and offer their support.
"Therefore, we will also be holding a social evening at Primrose Community Centre, with entertainment and a buffet.
"Tickets cost 3.50 and are available from the hospice reception. Fire walkers have free entry to celebrate their great achievements."
The closing date for registrations is Friday, March 6. All participants must be 16 or over on the date of the fire walk.
Call the hospice on 451 6400 for a registration form.
Based in Primrose Terrace, Jarrow, St Clare's Hospice provides day and residential care for people with life-threatening illnesses, and annual running costs now top 1.5m.
