A WOMAN is still fighting for for her life in hospital, more than two weeks after a horrific road crash in which a digger fell from a lorry and crushed her car.
A low loader flatbed wagon, carrying three diggers, was travelling east on the A194, near the York Avenue garage slip road in Jarrow, at about 11am on Sunday, April 13, when one of the huge machines fell off the back of the vehicle and crushed a Vauxhall Antara following behind.
The driver of the car, a 33-year-old woman, suffered life-threatening injuries.
She was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment.
Police have confirmed she remains in a critical but stable condition.
