Driver continues to fight for his life after horror smash

A driver who suffered '˜life-changing' injuries in a horror smash at the weekend is still fighting for survival.

The 31-year-old man is in intensive care at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary after being involved in a car crash on Saturday.

Officers were called to Lizard Lane, Whitburn, near to the junction with Kitchener Road, at 1.53pm, where a silver Ford Focus had left the road.

The car was left on its roof in a field.

Police said the driver suffered ‘serious, life’ changing’ injuries and are appealing for information from the public.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “The injured man remains in intensive care at the RVI. His condition remains critical but stable.”
