'Elvis' leaves choir all shook up

A TOP tribute act is shaking up a local choir with some Memphis magic.

Owen Curran, 62, from South Shields, joined the Newcastle Barbershop Harmony Club after seeing the group featured in the Gazette, looking for new recruits.

Mr Curran, who has been an Elvis Presley impersonator for eight years, and goes under the stage name 'The Owen-ly Memphis King' said: "It's something different, but it's always been an ambition of mine."

The choir, which is based in South Shields, and has been running for two and a half years, recently performed at The Sage, Gateshead, to an audience including Princess Beatrice.

Club chairman Eddie Evans, 69, described his new recruit as "unusual, something we've never had before, and very different!"
