Fan's three-year ban for racist abuse of star's mum

HIDING his face in shame, this is the yob who racially abused the mum of football star Darren Bent.

Sunderland season-ticket holder John Davison was slapped with a three-year banning order in court yesterday.

The 26-year-old, from Chester-le-Street, shouted the n-word as Shirley Bent walked past him on the way to watch her son play away at Wigan Athletic last November.

Davison, of Avondale Terrace, handed himself into police after he returned home following the match.

At court yesterday, he admitted using threatening words or behaviour in a racially-aggravated manner.

Colin Rawson, mitigating, said his client was a "loyal supporter" and had sent a bunch of flowers and a letter of apology to Mrs Bent.

Davison was also fined 170 and ordered to pay Mrs Bent 50 compensation, plus 100 court costs.

Sunderland bosses said they will review the case once Davison's banning order has ended.

The 18-year-old daughter of former Newcastle United striker Antoine Sibierski has been found dead in her Manchester apartment. It is believed nightclub promoter Sibylle was found hanged. There were no suspicious circumstances, say police.
