FASHIONS ON FUNDS
A FASHION show has raised almost £2,000 for the NSPCC in South Tyneside.
The Cleadon branch of the national children's charity turned on the glamour for the fundraising event at Cleadon Golf Club.
Models from Newcastle-based agency AM Models strutted their stuff on the catwalk in the latest fashions, provided by Aria Boutique of Front Street, Cleadon.
Cleadon Beauty Clinic, also in Front Street, supported the event by giving a make-up demonstration and donating raffle prizes, including vouchers and 150 of Clinique goods. It also sold gifts, and donated 10 per cent of the profits to the charity.
Catherine Gregan, who sits on the committee of the Cleadon branch of the NSPCC, said the money will stay in the area.
She added: "We had the most successful of nights.
"We raised something in the region of 1,900, so it was worthwhile."
Mrs Gregan is also a member of the golf club, which provided the use of its facilities free of charge. She added: "Some of the things we hear at our quarterly meetings about children abused in our own area is appalling.
"We think everything is lovely, but it is not."
Aria owner Luisa Minchella, who spent most of the night helping backstage, said she was pleased to support the NSPCC.
"We usually do children's charity events, but we hadn't this year, so we thought we would get involved." Cleadon Beauty Clinic owner Maria Branch said: "We were delighted to be asked because it was for a good cause. It was hard work, but it paid off!"
The NSPCC works to protect children from cruelty, support vulnerable families, campaign for changes to the law and raise awareness about abuse. Just 10 a month could pay for a helpline counsellor.
