'Future Labour leader' visits Shields
A MAN tipped as a future leader of the Labour Party was set to visit South Shields today.
Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell was due to call in at Flagg Court Health Centre to have a look at an employment programme run by JobCentre Plus and the NHS.
The Pathways to Work scheme provides long-term unemployed people with specialist support from personal advisers in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
About 40 people have so far been referred for this support, and there are plans to extend the scheme further.
