Get set for club road race

RUNNERS are asked to get on their marks for next week's annual Jarrow and Hebburn Athletic Club road race.

Organisers of Monday's race say the 10k event from The Robin Hood pub in Jarrow and around the King George V Playing Fields is ideal preparation for this year's Great North Run.

The race also incorporates a separate 2k fun run. It's open to all and entries can be taken up to the start of the race at 7pm, and the fun run at 6.30pm.

The event has the support of the team behind the building of the second Tyne Tunnel.

And earlier this week, Tamsin Greulish, communications manager with TT2, put athletes through their paces near the Tyne's pedestrian tunnel.

Groundwork South Tyneside has also given four 25 vouchers for its recycling shop at Middlefields Recycling Village in Jarrow.
