Happy couple's charity cash vow

A BIG-hearted couple renewing their wedding vows have asked guests to help a charity close to their hearts.

Lisa and Garry Bushell have been married for 15 years and wanted to celebrate their anniversary by tying the knot all over again.

Mrs Bushell's aunt Margaret Ingoe, 57, was born with Downs Syndrome, and the couple decided to raise cash for the respite care she and others receive at Elmville at Monkton Hall Hospital, Monkton Lane, Jarrow.

Mrs Bushell, 35, a housewife, from Soane Gardens in Whiteleas, said: "We were fairly young when we got married and we always said we wanted to do it again. It's a chance to say I love you again.

"We already have our own home and don't need anything, so we thought if people did want to give something, they could give to charity. My mam and dad look after Margaret and Elmville really helps them. I don't think they would get anything done without their help.

"We wanted everyone to know about the good work they do there and also possibly raise money for them."

Mrs Bushell and her husband, a 37-year-old scaffolder, will say their vows at the new register office and will have their reception at Marsden Grotto – the same place they had it 15 years ago.

Their sons Jak, 12, and Sam, nine, will also be involved in the day.

She added: "It's a real family occasion. Jak will be best man while Sam will give me away."

Mrs Bushell's mum, April Thompson, of Reynolds Avenue, Whiteleas, said: "When they told me they didn't want any presents and they'd like to raise money for Elmville, I thought it was lovely.

"Margaret has lived with me for 22 years and Elmville has been a Godsend."
